Victoria
Victoria
(f) Latin, ‘victory.’ Victoria was the Roman
goddess of victory. Queen Victoria inherited the name from her
mother, who was German. During the queen’s reign (1837-1901)
the name was very rarely used in Britain, but it has become extremely
fashionable in England and Wales, as well as Scotland, since 1970.
In Scotland many of the pet forms are also used as names in their
own right. These include Vicki, Vickie, Vicky and Vikki.
