Auchtermuchty
Auchtermuchty, Fife, Scotland, became a trading centre situated ideally on the Stirling, Kinross, St. Andrews road and the Falkland across to Newburgh road. In 1728 the present Town House with its characteristic steeple was built. The weekly markets were held at the Mercat Cross outside.
The first recorded mention of any church on the site of the present Auchtermuchty Church, Fife, Scotland, is on March 31st 1245 when the building, probably constructed of wattle and daub, was consecrated by the then Bishop of St Andrews, Archbishop de Burnham.
