Scottish Marriages of Necessity
The
Rev. Mr Baird had a strong dislike for marriages of necessity,
common enough at one time in Scotland. He was called to officiate
at one of these, and arrived with reluctance and disgust half
an hour late.
‘You
are very late, Mr Baird,’ said the bridegroom.
‘Yes, about six months too late,’ replied Mr Baird.
