Raised as six independent companies in 1725. Formed, with the
addition of four more companies, into a regiment in 1739. Regimental

The Highlanders In 1994, the Queen’s
Own Highianders and The Gordon Highlanders (75th, raised in 1787
and 92nd, raised in 1794) were amalgamated to form The
Highlanders. The Queen’s Own Highlanders had been formed
in 1961 from an amalgamation of The Seaforth Highlanders (72nd,
raised in 1778 and 78th, raised in 1793) and The Queen’s
Own Cameron Highianders (raised in 1793). Regimental Headquarters:

Margaret’s Own Glasgow and Ayrshire Regiment) In 1959, The
Royal Scots Fusiliers (raised in 1678) and The Highland Light
Infantry (71st, raised in 1777 and 74th, raised in 1787) were
amalgamated to form the Royal Highland Fusiliers.
