Rosemary
Rosemary
(f) Also Rosemarie. This name, hardly used
in the English-speaking world until the I 920’s, was most
used in the 1950’s by Scottish parents. It was 47th most
frequently used name in Scotland in 1958.
The
flower is a symbol of remembrance, a fact played upon by E. C.
Stedman (1833-1908) in a poem to his godchild which begins:
Rosemary! could we give you
‘Remembrance’ with your name,
Ere long you’d tell me something
Of Heaven, whence you came.
