Robert
Tannahill
(1774-1810)
Poet
and weaver
Immensely popular weaver-poet from Paisley who wrote, initially
for Glasgow periodicals and was later published. Some of his poems
and songs are not unlike those of Burns, whom he admired. But
he suffered ill-health and ultimately drowned himself in a Paisley
canal over difficulties with his publishers.
