Paul

Paul
(m) Latin paulus, ‘small.’ This is very much a name
of the 1970’s in the English-speaking world, though it has
now begun to go out of fashion in the U.S.A. and
Canada. Paul was 27th most frequently used name in
Scotland in 1958, and it has become more popular since.
Its
use in Scotland in the Middle Ages led to such sur-
names as Poison (from Gaelic Pôl), Macphail, Paulin and
Paulson.
