Nicola
Nicola
(f) This is the Italian form of Nicholas, the Italian feminine
form being Nicoletta. Nicola is now well established as a girls’
name in Britain; elsewhere in the English-speaking world the French
feminine form Nicole is preferred. Nicola was the name given to
only 25 girls born in Scotland in 1958. Since then it has taken
Scotland by storm. It has also been immensely successful in England
and Wales since 1955. Other feminine forms of Nicholas used in
Scotland include Nichole and Nicolette, the latter leading to
Colette or Collette.
