Murdo
Murdo
(m) The usual spelling in Scotland of Murdoch
when used as a Christian name. It derives from either of
two Gaelic names, Muireach or Murchadh (‘mariner’
and ‘sea warrior’). Murdo was obviously unfamiliar
to the
English Registrar who recorded the birth, in 1878, of
Murder John Smith, son of Private Murder Smith of the
Scots Guards. Murdina has been used as a feminine form
of Murdo.
