Munro
Munro
(m) Gaelic Mac An Rothaich. The origin of
this clan name and surname is much disputed. It has been connected
with the River Roe in Derry, the Munros being thought by some
to be of Irish stock. Others rather doubtfully refer the name
to Ross, as the family were formerly vassals of the earls of Ross.
Munro, which also takes the form Monro, is in occasional use as
a Scottish Christian name.
