Masuk Tour of Scotland, April 17th 2004

A 7 person small group tour which commenced on April 17th, 2004 at Edinburgh International Airport.

Day 1:
Group arrived at Edinburgh Airport at 10.00am, and travelled North over the Forth Road Bridge for a brief stop in North Queensferry before continuing on to Dunfermline in the Kingdom of Fife. In Dunfermline we visited Dunfermline Abbey. Photo 1, Photo 2, Photo 3, Photo 4, From Dunfermline we headed North to Kinross and Loch Leven to visit Vane Farm which is one of the most popular RSPB nature reserves in Scotland. The visitor centre overlooks the loch where pink-footed and greylag geese, whooper swans and thousands of ducks spend the winter. After lunch at Vane Farm we travelled through agricultural countryside to the small Perthshire village of Abernethy to visit the Abernethy Pictish Tower. From Abernethy we drove to our base location in Dunkeld where we visited Dunkeld Cathedral before settling into our base location at The Royal Dunkeld Hotel.

Day 2:
After a full Scottish Breakfast we drove North to Pitlochry to attend Sunday Morning Church Service. After church we travelled West to Grandtully and had lunch at the Riverside Inn. After lunch we viewed a traditional music and crafts show in the pub. We then contuned West to Kenmore and then up over the mountains and through the beautiful Glen Quaich. From Glen Quaich we travelled through the Sma Glen and then East and South to view the Duppliin Cross situated in St Serf's Church in the village of Dunning. From Dunning we travelled South to Glenfarg where we had dinner at The Famous Bein Inn before returning to Dunkeld.

Day 3:
After a full Scottish Breakfast we drove South into The Kingdom of Fife, through Newburgh, and along the South Bank of the River Tay to the village of Kilmany to view the Jim Clark memorial statue, then onwards to the Ancient city of St Andrews. After a brief visit to view the Old Golf Course we travelled South to the East Neuk of Fife and old fishing village of Pittenweem and then to my hometown of Anstruther to have a lunch of Pittenweem Haddock at The Craws Nest Hotel. After lunch we visited the fishing village of Crail and Crail Pottery. From Crail we returned to St Andrews to visit the long stretch of beach called the West Sands, St Andrews Cathedral and the shopping district. Returning to Dunkeld via the South Bank of the River Tay, we dined at the Tap Inn in Birnam followed by an evening of live Traditional Scottish Music in the same pub.

Day 4:
After a full Scottish Breakfast we drove our longest drive of the tour; North up the A9 then West through Dalwhinnie and Monarch of The Glen Country to the Commando Memorial at Spean Bridge then onwards to Fort Augustus at the foot of Loch Ness. We visited the Caledonian Canal, the village itself and Loch Ness before returning to Spean Bridge to visit the Wollen Mill. From Spean Bridge we visited Laggan Dam before heading South again for Dunkeld.

Day 5:
After a full Scottish Breakfast we drove to Aberfeldy for a brief stop at the Croft Moraig Standing Stones and Aberfeldy Bridge before moving on to the village of Fortingall to view the Fortingall Yew and Church. From Fortingall we visited the Blacksmith at Keltneyburn before driving over the Schiehallion Road to the village of Kinloch Rannoch. After lunch in the Community Tearoom at Kinloch Rannoch we visited the visitor centre at Killiecrankie. From Killiecrankie we drove South to Pitlochry to visit the nearby Edradour Distillery and The Queens View at Loch Tummel. Returning to Dunkeld we visited The Hermitage.

Day 6:
After a full Scottish Breakfast we drove South and West to the town of Dollar to visit Castle Campbell. From Dollar we drove East to view the vehicles at Gateside Minimart. After Gateside we travelled to the village of Falkland to visit Falkland Palace in the Kingdom of Fife.

Day 7:
After a full Scottish Breakfast we left the Royal Dunkeld Hotel to spend the day in the Capital City of Edinburgh. After visiting Edinburgh Castle, the group spent a few hours shopping and discovering Edinburgh City Centre. Leaving Edinburgh we visited South Queensferry before crossing the Forth Road Bridge and settling into The Albert Hotel for dinner and a final night in Scotland.
