Lyle
Lyle
(m) A Scottish surname occasionally used as a male
Christian name. It derives from Norman French, and is
the same as Lisle, formerly L’Isle, ‘the island.’
Mrs Craik
says in her novel Olive (1850): ‘She learnt their Christian
names, Robert and Lyle—the latter of which she admired
very much, and thought it exactly suited the pretty, delicate
younger brother.’
