Kevin
Kevin
(m) Occasionally Kevan, which is a Scottish sur-
name. Kevin is normally thought of as Irish, since it has
long been a favourite with Irish parents. Its use there
seems to be in honour of several Irish saints named
Caoimhghin, ‘comely birth.’ Kevin became popular in
most English-speaking countries in the 1960’s. In Scotland
it was 53rd most frequently used name in 1958. Since then it has
become rather more popular.
