Keith
Keith
(m) A Scottish placename which became a sur-
name, then a Christian name. It was most used as such in the 1950’s,
being in 43rd position in Scotland in 1958. The name was certainly
not confined to Scotland, but was used in great numbers in all
English-speaking countries. English and Welsh parents began to
use it in the 1920’s, and by 1950 it was ranked 18th. In
North America Keith arrived rather later and is still being well
used. It also continues to please Scottish and Irish parents,
but elsewhere it has fallen out of fashion.
