John Broadwood ( 1732 - 1812 )

Piano manufacturer, born in Cockburnspath, Scottish Borders, SE Scotland, UK. He walked to London to become a cabinet maker, married the daughter of the Swiss-born harpsichord-maker, Burkhardt Tschudi (1702--73), and founded with him the great London pianoforte house (1770).

His grandson, Henry Fowler Broadwood (1811--93), was also a great improver of the piano.
