Scottish Cooking, Islay Loaf

6 oz. raisins

6 oz. brown sugar

1/2 pt. cold water

1 tbsp. golden syrup

! tbsp. butter

10 02. sifted self-raising
flour
2 tsps. baking soda
7 dsp. mixed spice
1/4 cup chopped walnuts
Boil together raisins, sugar, water, golden syrup, and butter. Allow to cool, then fold in flour, soda, spire, and walnuts. Bake in a greased and lined 8-inch cake tin in a moderate oven (350° to 375°) for 1 hour.
