Innes
Innes
(m, f) The name of an island (the word means
‘island’ in Gaelic) which became a Scottish surname,
and
later a clan name. It is used occasionally in Scotland as
a Christian name, normally for boys but also for girls. As a
girls’ name it comes close in sound to Inez, the Spanish
form of Agnes. The surname Maclnnes, ‘son of Angus,’
is
not etymologically related.
