The
Bagpipes
Every
one knows the Highlander’s love for the bagpipes. Scott,
in one of his novels, gives expression to the idea of the height
of a Highlander’s happiness, namely:
Twenty-four
bagpipe players assembled together in one room, all playing at
the same time different tunes.
A
Campbeltown Highlander, speaking to the banker on the
day after a local concert, and referring with pathetic
enthusiasm to the fine voice of one of the lady singers,
said, “Aye, it was beautiful; it was heavenly; it was
just like the bagpipes!”
