Gregor

Gregor
(m) Also Gregory, Grigor. Gaelic Griogair.
A popular Christian name in early times because of St
Gregory (c. 540-604), whose name derived from a Greek
word meaning ‘watchful.’ Many Scottish surnames, ranging
from Greer to Macgregor, testify to the frequency of the name’s
use in Scotland in the Middle Ages, but it has been surprisingly
little used in modern times. As Gregory, it has, by contrast,
been very popular in North America and Australia. Gregory has
also been rapidly coming into fashion in England and Wales since
1965.
