Gordon
Gordon
(m) Gaelic Gôrdan. A Berwickshire placename
of uncertain origin gave rise to this surname and famous
clan name, at one time that of the most powerful Scottish clan.
As a Christian name it has been especially popular with Scottish
parents this century. They made it their 25th most frequently
used name in 1935 and i6th in 1958. The name has continued to
be used a great deal in Scotland in the late 1970’s. In
England and Wales Gordon was most used between 1920 and 1940.
