Glen

Glen,
Glenn (m) Both forms of this name are used in
Scotland, in almost equal numbers. It is a modern
Christian name, and, in spite of its appearance, not par-
ticularly Scottish. There is evidence to suggest that it was first
used in Canada, where it is still more popular than in other English-speaking
countries. Scottish settlers in Canada may have used it first,
in conscious allusion to Scottish glens, or it may have derived
from the surname, which in turn derives from a placename. The
actor Glenn Ford was born in Canada, though in his case Glenn
replaced his real Christian name, Gwyllyn. Glyn is actually the
Welsh equivalent of Glen.
