Eleanor
(f) A form of Helen which early became a
royal name in England. It was frequently used there in the nineteenth
century, whereas in Scotland it is very much a name of the twentieth
century. It was most used in the 1930’s, but it was still
in 65th position in 1958. Variations and diminutives include Elinor,
Elenor, Ellenor,
Lenore, Leonora, Nora, Norah.
