Edith
Edith
(f) An Old English name composed of elements
meaning ‘rich, happy’ and ‘war.’ The name
was very
popular in England and Wales from 1875-1925. It then
faded away completely and has not so far been revived.
The Scottish frequency lists for 1935 show Edith in 42nd
position. In 1958, though it was no longer amongst the top hundred
girls’ names, 75 girls born in Scotland received this name.
