Cosmo
(m) Introduced to Scotland in the seventeenth
century by the 2nd Duke of Gordon, whose friend was
Cosimo III, Grand Duke of Tuscany. The name is con-
nected with ‘cosmos’ and ‘cosmic;’ its
original Greek
meaning being ‘an ordered system.’ Cosmo is only used
occasionally in modern times.
