Clackmannan,
Scotland

Clackmannan
is situated near the north bank of the River Forth, 2 miles East
of Alloa. The Clackmannan Tower is now a picturesque ruin, but
at one time played an important part in Scottish history, and
was the seat of a lineal descendant of the Bruce family after
the failure of the male line. The old market cross still exists,
and close to it stands the stone that gives the town its name
(Gaelic, clack, stone; Manann, the name of the district).
