Catriona
Catriona
(f) The Gaelic form of Catherine or
Katharine. It occurs also as Caitriona, which is the Irish
spelling, and in the phonetic forms Catrina or Katrina.
Katrine, Katarina, Katriona and Katrena are also found, as well
as the Italian Caterina. In spite of this variety the name seems
to be settling down as either Catriona or Katrina, both of which
have been fairly popular with Scottish parents in the late 1970’s.
Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel Catriona (1893) has undoubtedly
had considerable influence both on usage and spelling.
