Bare
Feet In The Scottish Borders
There
is a superstition in Roxburghshire that, if you are going on a
journey on Monday morning, and meet a
man who has bare feet, it is necessary that you should turn again,
as it is an evil omen.
The
only way to prevent the bad effect of so fatal an occurrence is
to return to your own abode, to enter it with the right foot foremost,
and to eat and drink. Then you may safely resume your journey,
the spell being dissolved.
