Tour Argyll and The road to the Isles
Dramatic
mountain peaks tower over moors dotted with tumble-down crofts
and castles laid waste in clan feuds. Icy streams ripple through
wooded glens and into lochs teeming with salmon and trout, to
the delight of anglers. Golden eagles soar above the rocky crags
and red deer roam the moors, near scattered villages haunted by
tales of murder and treachery in days gone by.
The
principal towns of Argyll, while all having quite different qualities,
have a common theme in providing excellent facilities for shopping,
sports, outdoor pursuits and sightseeing. The bustling seaside
communities of Rothesay and Dunoon lay witness to the history
of Scotland while Inveraray has, in it's infamous jail, and castle,
two notable attraction.
Further
north, the ancient fishing village of Oban has seen many changes
of economy from fishing to tourism.
